Frequently Asked Questions
Standard Ignition and Ignition Edge licenses have a one-time cost, as they are both perpetual licenses. Purchase those licenses once and you get permanent access. Ignition Cloud Edition does have an ongoing fee (you pay for it based on your usage).
Absolutely! The Ignition platform has unlimited extensibility. Add on additional modules or Solution Suites as your needs evolve.
Yes. If you have one or more modules that a Solution Suite includes, and you’d like to convert over to the Solution Suite, you’d pay the retail value of the Solution Suite less the retail value of the module(s) you already have.
No. Ignition is sold by the server, so you’ll need one license per server.
Redundancy is supported with Ignition, Ignition Edge, and Ignition Cloud Edition using standard licenses (six-character key) and leased licenses (eight-character key). When working with redundancy, both nodes will require a license where the license for the backup node generally contains most, if not all, of the same modules as the master node. Traditionally, redundancy involves two standard licenses: one license will be applied to the master gateway, and the other license will be applied to the backup gateway.
Note that you can add a redundant license in the future. And you can add redundancy to your existing license. Watch the Redundant Licensing lesson on Inductive University for more details.
Unlike standard Ignition, Ignition Edge runs a limited set of Ignition modules and has no database connectivity. It is meant for one Ignition project and one tag provider at a time. Edge does, however, include 35 days of internal data storage for historical and event logging.
Client Views: You can have a maximum of two concurrent client views with Ignition Edge.
Device Connections: You can add an unlimited number of devices with Ignition Edge, for no extra cost.
Tags: You can add an unlimited number of tags with Ignition Edge, for no extra cost.
Yes, it is possible. Ignition and Ignition Edge share the same basic technology. To learn more about how you can upgrade, please contact our sales representatives at (800) 266-7798.
No, but our Premier Technology Provider, Opto 22, sells edge devices that easily integrate with the Ignition platform, and many come with Ignition Edge pre-licensed and pre-installed.
Yes. There are percentage discounts when you purchase Ignition Edge licenses in bulk. View the full bulk pricing schedule for more information.
BasicCare is 16% of the retail price of the software at the time of purchase and is billed annually.
TotalCare is 20% of the retail price of the software at the time of purchase and is billed annually.
PriorityCare is 24% of the retail price of the software at the time of purchase and is billed annually.
Please Note: Since the price of a support plan is set at the time of purchase, it won’t decrease if you, for example, stop using a module. The only way a support plan’s price will change is if you add new software onto your activation key — in that case a support plan’s price will increase based on a percentage of the new software’s retail price (as outlined above).
Major software upgrades cost 65% of the software’s current retail price.
If you want to move up to a higher tier of support, you can simply pay the cost difference to do so at any time. If you want to move to a lower tier of support, you can do so when you renew your support plan.
If your license does not have support/upgrade protection, you’ll have to pay 65% of the software’s current retail price in order to do a major upgrade of Ignition. You will also be unable to access support via phone, web portal, or email after your 90-day post-purchase complimentary phone support period has ended.
